Often humans see kindness as something we offer to our fellow human beings, seeing all other life forms as less worthy. If you've read previous blogs you know I do not feel that way. All of life is worthy of kindness; we are interdependent. When we truly see ourselves in the water we drink and the air we breathe, we will truly get it. Unkindness to our resources is unkindness to every other human, animal, plant, etc. Understanding animism allows for a more realistic participation in our earthly existence. We see our responsibilities more clearly. I have recently discovered this term but these concepts have been guiding me for more than twenty years. Animism is an anthropological term that is used to describe many belief systems. These beliefs have merged with some of the major religions of the world yet they are not really a religion at all. People who experience the spiritual nature of all things, simply believe their personal experience. Superstition is belief attached to experience. Superstition is not intrinsic to Animism. If you are silent in the woods or at the beach, you will hear spirit in everything. You will merge and never want to go back to a life of constant distraction.
