This past week I listened to Dr. Vandana Shiva. What she said truly embodied my beliefs and passion for a balanced relationship between human beings and all living organisms. I woke up realizing that the feeling in my chest when listening to her speak was my heart. Her words touched my heart. In that moment, I realized, that is what is meant by "following your heart". If you have supportive relationships growing up, it is easier to learn to follow your heart at a young age. I've watched this with my own daughter. I may have instinctively known I was not supported. This made me protective of her needs for self expression. Dr. Shiva spoke eloquently of the protective instinct. She spoke specifically of our oneness with the entire eco system and all living things. This is my personal passion. You may feel a greater passion for social injustice. The important part of growing into following your own heart, is learning to listen to it and feel it. It is the life blood of activism. Activism is action that advocates for a value or issue that represents a core value. There are so many ways to take action but in order to feel mobilized, you must be in touch with your heart. If you follow your heart, you may have resistance from emotional attachments. Our emotional attachments are not always supportive or in alignment with our hearts conscience. Others may try to talk us out of what we feel is important. This has been my life journey and I know I am not alone in this struggle. You may be called to take a stand like Nelson Mandela or to live up in a tree like Julia Butterfly Hill. Where your heart may take you, no one can predict. These are situations where circumstance met the hearts true calling. If you do not know your heart, you may miss that calling. When you are in love, you are craving emotional bonding. This is a natural human need but it is not what following your heart means. We are often led to believe that falling inlove is following our heart. This is a common misconception. All of our hearts have a larger calling. We can not fall in love with an appropriate partner if we have not learned to follow our heart in larger issues. If you do not know what you feel passionate about. Journal about your teen years or younger; the seeds of our passion can be found it that time period of our lives. Look at strong feelings for causes. What attracted you during your Saturn return? The saturn return occurs between the ages of twenty seven and thirty. We are all unique. Finding your own passion will help you to find someone to share your passion with. This photo spoke to me of finding our own sacred path in life. This song is a favorite of my granddaughter. I think Dr. Shiva would enjoy it too. It's a great sing along. Garden season in the north eastern US is about to begin. Enjoy the season.
This is my heart and soul being expressed for our water home! Ramon Navarro is amazing; a truly beautiful soul. Twelve or so years ago My husband and I went back to the place I surfed as a teenager. My Dad took us for a tour of the old neighborhood and the state park. I remembered the simple life I enjoyed back then; going to the beach each day. I remembered thinking I would teach my children to surf. Well, thirty years later I got the chance to live that old dream when my daughter moved to California. Now, I look forward to teaching my granddaughter. She is already a mermaid! and loves the water. I hope this film inspires you to fight for our last remaining resources and save the beauty of our planet before it is too late for our children and grandchildren! Let's go surfing now! This is a trailer from Patagonia. Catch the movie if you can. My Surfline version is longer. I will share it on facebook. Help save The Point, Punta de Lobos. Click the facebook icon above the photo of me and Gracie. I unpacked one of my storage units this past week. This old bus seemed the perfect prop for this weeks Photo. It's for sale; make me an offer. I love the artwork in this video. Is this an anti-mermaid song? "and I am alone when I'm not with you" Hmm, we all need someone.
While listening to this U2 song, I thought of the universal nature of the lyrics. Love in relationship and love in greater relationship to our lives. It speaks of the process of love. Projection "you've got someone to blame", meeting needs "one need in the night". We are "all one but we're not the same" but we "get to carry each other", we are all one. This is a concept that we are so rarely taught in the West. Should we pass judgement on the individual that hasn't caught on? Should our individual journey feel threatened by oneness? I have been on a very individual journey for the past ten years. I have learned what I am most passionate about. I have learned about my many deficiencies as an adult. I knew my strengths. I had been praised for them. My kindness, my artistic talents, my cooking, blah, blah, blah. I had never been truly on my own and tested. This is where life makes us "crawl". Our blind side is now exposed. "Love is a temple", "Love is a higher law", Oh, and love will make you "crawl". It may be for our children. It may be for a Cause we hold dear to our heart. There are times when all life has "got is hurt". We will crawl through our own pain at some point, if we are ever to be blessed with the enlightenment on the other side. WE are ONE, but we must respect the individual journey. We evolve by allowing individual creativity. If you have ever created a piece of Art. The really magical pieces are the ones that have experimentation, mistakes, combined with skill. That's life well lived in a nut shell. If you like Johnny Cash, he did a version of "One" on his "When the Man comes Around" CD. Bono sings backup vocals. It's pretty cool. I had a memory while writing this of a morning driving to work back in the 80's, I was a young single Mom trying to get to work on time each morning. I had just bought the "Rattle and Hum" cassette and had to listen to "All I want is You". I spilled my coffee while opening the cassette and was a little late since I had to clean things up when I arrived. I loved that song! Ahhh The Blood Moon has come and past, this is a photo taken 12 hours before the eclipse. The moon has kept me feeling restless for the past 48 hrs. How about you? |
